The university lecturers who have publicly thrown their support behind former President John Mahama on Tuesday 15 October 2024 stormed the Dome market with their campaign to get the NDC Flagbearer elected.
The lecturers who have been on the streets of Accra at various traffic stops, moved their campaign to the Dome market to educate and sensitize voters ahead of the December polls.
The lecturers received loud cheers market women upon entering the Dome market while others joined them in singing and dancing to tunes composed for the NDC’s campign for their Presidential candidate.
They were later joined by some students from various universities in the capital, party executives and supporters of the National Democratic Congress NDC in the Dome Kwabenya constituency to distribute fliers which contain policies and vision of John Mahama, in addition to some party paraphernalia to the market women, drivers and Okada riders who were demanding for it.
Speaking to the media, the Head of Physics Department University of Ghana and leading member of the group, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse underscored the importance of voter education and why they decided to undertake some sensitization at the Dome market.
According to her, statistics have shown that rejected ballots have in past elections outperformed some political parties in the elections.
Prof Browne Klutse said this was the reason they felt there was the need to educate their supporters on how to cast a valid vote.
She said their aim was to help ensure that a spoilt ballot never finds its way into the ballot box because a spoilt ballot is generally one that a voter has inadvertently marked incorrectly.
She says most voters need to know that they can hand a spoilt ballot back to polling assistant in exchange for a new ballot to rectify their error.
“We have realised that most of our people make mistakes during the voting process, and so we have to educate them the proper way of voting so we do not record any mistakes after voting.
Most of them don’t even know that when you mistakenly spoil your ballot, you can return it for a new ballot.”
The lecturers further urged the people of Dome Kwabenya to vote massively for change, stressing that John Mahama is the only person who can bring the needed change to Ghanaians.
They also called on electorates of Dome Kwabenya to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate because of the abandonment they have suffered over the years.
The Lecturers further urged the voter believed rather vote for Eliklim Akurungu of the NDC as their next Member of Parliament and re-elect John Mahama as president to reset Ghana.
