Ranking Member on Parliament’s select committee on Health Kwabena Mintah Akandor has served notice the minority in parliament would hold government to account for every pesewa spent in the management of COVID-19.
Government has reacted angrily to the call from the minority in parliament for the Gender and Social Protection ministry to account for monies spent on feeding during the three week lock down.
According to the minority Spokesperson for Finance Cassel Ato Forson they would petition the Auditor-General to look into the expenditure after several attempts to get the minister to render accounts failed.
A deputy Information minister Pius Hadzide however said the minority’s move was unnecessary and premature.
Speaking to Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive Juaboso MP Kwabena Mintah Akandor wondered why government was apprehensive about the involvement of the Auditor-General.
He said government should not be afraid of calls for accountability if it had nothing to hide.
Kwabena Mintah Akandor said the minority would continue to pursue accountability for COVID funds even if it takes a new government to get them results
