A major conflict is brewing at the Bohye Market in Madina, Accra, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Multi-Consult, Clemence Gyato, has issued a stringent 21-day ultimatum to all market women operating on the premises to evacuate.
Gyato asserts that the land currently used by the Bohye Market traders is his private property.
Speaking to the press at the site, the Multi-Consult CEO explained that the market’s presence was initially a temporary arrangement. He claims that the previous Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Jennifer Dede Agyabeng personally appealed to him to permit the traders to use the land.
This temporary status, according to Gyato has now been challenged by the current Municipal leadership, with the CEO alleging that the sitting MCE is “claiming the land is a government property.”
In light of the escalating dispute with the current municipal administration, Clemence Gyato has made a direct appeal to the highest office. The CEO called upon President John Mahama to intervene in the matter and “call the MCE to order,” suggesting a disagreement over the true ownership and status of the land.
The eviction notice has left the affected market women in a precarious situation. They have collectively issued a public plea to both Gyato and the government for a concrete relocation plan.

Their appeal highlighted the need for a solution that acknowledges their livelihood while resolving the land ownership dispute.
