The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has revealed to Radio Gold that it has taken delivery of 450, 000 barrels of fuel for power generation to avert the ongoing acute power crisis.
The ministry had earlier dismissed calls from the Minority in Parliament for the publication of a load management timetable amid ongoing power outages, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 19, the Ministry, through its Spokesperson and Head of Communications, Richmond Rockson, Esq., emphasized that Ghana’s current power generation capacity is adequate to meet national demand, including during peak periods.
The Ministry further stated that there is no justification for a load-shedding timetable at this time.
Sector minister, John Jinapor in an address to parliaments Energy , has stated that Ghana is facing an imminent power crisis due to a shortage of liquid fuel for electricity-generating plants.
He stated that the Ministry was actively working with the Ministry of Finance to secure the necessary funding for new fuel supplies.
The current fuel reserves are estimated to last only 2.6 days, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
