Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has joined calls for the internet to be reduced drastically.
He believes that the cost of data in the country affects the practice of democracy, as some persons who may be opinionated may find difficulty in expressing themselves because they can’t afford data.
Considering the high cost of data, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is of the view that the board of the National Communications Authority needs to be dissolved because they are not representing the people who put them there well.
“I fully endorse the Ghanaian people’s legitimate demand for an immediate reduction in the cost of data. Data is not luxury! Exorbitant data also undermines the quality of our democracy as many citizens are priced out of making their democratic contributions. #DissolveNCAboard,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Communications Authority has said the high cost of data is not a result of making MTN a significant market power.
