Former President, John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalize the Komenda Sugar Factory, a project initiated by the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) government but that has since fallen into disrepair under the President Akuffo Addo administration.
The NDC 2024 flagbearer, John Mahama criticized the Akuffo Addo government for neglecting the factory, which he argued has the potential to create thousands of jobs for the unemployed youth.
He emphasized the NDC’s dedication to job creation and said the NDC will operationalize the sugar factory if they win the December 7 elections.
Speaking Tuesday at an event to officially introduce his 2024 running mate to the central regional house of chiefs, Mr. Mahama said: “In the eight years of Professor Mills and my administration, we built the Komenda sugar factory that has been recklessly abandoned under this administration and I can assure you that when we come, we shall do everything within our power to operationalize the Komenda sugar factory so that it can employ the youth of this region”.
He highlighted the importance of reviving the factory to stimulate economic growth and provide employment opportunities for the youth in the region.
John Mahama underscored that the NDC is committed to supporting local industries and fostering growth in the manufacturing sector.
The NDC 2024 running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang is currently embarking on a campaign tour in her home region, the central region.
