The President of the Pan Africa Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery (PASCaTS) Professor Charles Yankah has disclosed an alarming rate at which an average number of children in Sub-Sahara Africa die due to lack of access to Surgery.
According to him, although
the cost may vary. Average heart surgery in Ghana costs between $8,000 and $13,000.
“You see, the cost of heart surgery, as i said, varies depending on the situation and the country. Here, it is very difficult to get money for surgery, which is why most Ghanaian patients rely on the benevolence of individuals and organisations, and, in some cases, some even die before help would arrive.”
Professor Michael Yankah was speaking at the launch of the First Ever Pan Africa Cardiothoacic Surgery Summit 2025, Accra, Ghana
