President John Dramani Mahama has assured that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will operate independently, free from political interference.
He made this commitment during the swearing-in ceremony of Dr. Johnson Asiama as Governor and Dr. Zakari Mumuni as First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.
Mahama emphasized that the BoG’s independence is crucial for building a resilient economy, where policies are driven by discipline, foresight, and the best interests of the Ghanaian people.
He acknowledged the challenges facing Ghana’s financial sector and expressed confidence in Dr. Asiama’s leadership, stating that he will rebuild trust, restore stability, and put the economy on a path of sustained growth.
The President also warned against the dangers of fiscal recklessness and the importance of responsible fiscal management, ensuring that the Bank of Ghana operates within its mandate without political interference.
