Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has appealed to the private sector to support the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Programme, describing it as critical to keeping girls in school and safeguarding their dignity.
She made the call during a meeting with the leadership of the Sunda Group, manufacturers of Softcare Sanitary Pads, commending the company for its contribution to the initiative and encouraging other businesses to participate.
According to the Vice President, girls should not be disadvantaged in their education due to natural biological processes.
She noted that the programme remains a key national priority, with a budgetary allocation of GHS 292.4 million captured in the 2026 Budget.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting inclusive economic growth.
She urged the Sunda Group to expand its local value chain through the use of domestically sourced raw materials, job creation and increased industrial activity in line with the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy.
Additionally, the Vice President called on manufacturers to intensify public education on the proper disposal of sanitary pads and diapers, stressing the need to promote hygiene, environmental sustainability and responsible industrial practices.
