The families of the two victims of the microlight aircraft crash that occurred in Tema Community 1 on March 16, have announced that their departed sons will be buried on March 28.
This is contained in a press release dated March 23 and signed on behalf of the families by the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor.
“Today marks exactly one week since we lost our beloved sons in the tragic microlight aircraft crash at Tema. With deep sorrow, yet in faith and gratitude to God, the Wettey and Donkor families announce the final funeral rites for Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor,” the statement read.
It added that “The final funeral rites will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Forecourt of the State House, Accra. The mortal remains of our dearly departed sons will be laid in state from 6am to 8am, after which the Burial Service will immediately commence.”
The family expresses its sincerest appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for his thoughtfulness and support in sending a delegation, led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to commiserate with the families.
“We are equally grateful to the Chief of Staff for approving the funeral service to be held at the Forecourt of the State House,” Mr Dwumfuor wrote.
“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, for personally commiserating with the families during this difficult period.
We further wish to thank the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his support and for sending a high-powered delegation to mourn with us. We are particularly grateful to the delegation, led by the Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Hon. Fredrick Opare Ansah, Campaign Manager for Dr. Bawumia,” it further stated.
