The Senior House Master of Bolgatanga Senior High School, Mr Napaala Stanislaus, on behalf of management has extended the school’s gratitude to government for their assistance ahead of school resumption on October 5.

He said this during the third phase of the national disinfection exercise taking place in all first and second cycle institutions in the Upper East Region.

According to Mr Napaala, the government had been generous to the school by giving them an extra bus, a gesture that has addressed their transportation challenges over the years.

In addition, government has provided the school with the necessary core text books that will allow teachers and students to learn at ease, without any reading material challenges, he added.

He was particularly positive that the current disinfection and fumigation exercise will help the school address its long battle with bedbugs, aside from ensuring a safe campus free of any traces of the coronavirus.

“I am very confident that this third disinfection exercise will put to finality the school’s long battle with bed bugs in our dormitories” he said.

Mr. Napaala took the opportunity to appeal to government for a new pick-up for management, as the current one was in bad shape, a result of many years of use.

In his words “although government has done very well for the school, we want to ask for more”.

Speaking on the school’s preparedness to receive the next batch of students, the senior house master said the school was more than capable and ready to receive students back to school as well as take in more students in the next academic year.

“We have received personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Veronica buckets, soaps, tissue and alcohol-based hand sanitisers and we are fully prepared to receive students back to school,” he said.

He also assured students and parents of their preparedness to ensure that students return to school safely.

“We have the necessary facilities to ensure full compliance with COVID 19 protocols,” he added.

The Assistant Headmistress of Navrongo Senior High School, Miss Clemencia Zizinga, expressed gratitude to Zoomlion and the government for extending the disinfection exercise to their school.

She said that they were fully prepared to reopen safely based on the ongoing exercise as well as other internal structures the school has put in place.

“We have procured thermometer guns as well as other safety equipment that would be used to ensure that students are adequately protected when school resumes,” she divulged

She also said that upon resumption, the school had put in place a continuous education strategy that would ensure that students and staff members fully complied with COVID 19 protocols.

The national disinfection exercise of all schools was a government initiative through the ministry of education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

It is aimed at preparing all schools in the country ahead of a planned resumption in October 2020.

In all, over 5,000 basic schools and 500 SHSs in the Upper East Region were expected to be disinfected in the on-going exercise.
