The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has cut sod to begin six major development projects across the education, health, roads and water sectors in the Ashiedu Keteke, Ablekuma South and Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan Districts.
The projects include the renovation of the Private Odartey Lamptey Basic School, upgrades to the Makola Clinic, road works along the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue corridor, the drilling and mechanisation of ten boreholes in selected schools in Ablekuma South, and the construction of nine water storage facilities in selected markets in Okaikoi South.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said the projects reflect the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the practical needs of residents across the capital.
“These projects are about action and impact. They are meant to improve access to quality education, healthcare, good roads and clean water for our people,” he said.
The Mayor disclosed that the projects are expected to be completed within a period of four to ten months and will be funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
“We are using both the Common Fund and our internally generated resources to ensure that development is not delayed and that communities see real results,” Hon. Allotey noted.
He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for supporting Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies with the needed resources to undertake meaningful development initiatives.
“I want to thank His Excellency the President for empowering local governments to deliver projects that directly touch the lives of ordinary citizens,” he added.
Hon. Allotey also called on residents of the beneficiary communities to support the Assembly and contractors to ensure timely completion of the projects.
“Governance must be driven by service to the people.
When communities cooperate and protect these projects, development becomes faster and more sustainable,” he said.
He reaffirmed AMA’s commitment to delivering visible improvements in education, healthcare, road infrastructure and access to clean water as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development across the city of Accra.
