Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has inspected the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant following the successful completion of its connection to the national transmission grid by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).
The inspection forms part of government efforts to ensure the smooth integration of new generation infrastructure into the national power system, as Ghana works to strengthen electricity supply and enhance energy security.
The AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant is expected to add about 141 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, providing a significant boost to power supply for households, businesses and industries, particularly in the middle belt and surrounding areas.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Jinapor described the grid tie-in as a major milestone in the country’s power expansion programme, noting that it reflects government’s broader strategy to stabilise and modernise the electricity sector.
“The completion of the tie-in at the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant represents a significant step in our efforts to expand generation capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply for Ghanaians,” he said. “This project underscores our commitment to long-term system stability and sustainable energy delivery.”
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition reiterated that all activities related to the plant are being undertaken in the national interest, with a strong focus on improving reliability, strengthening the resilience of the power system and ensuring better service delivery across the country.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to play a key role in supporting growing demand and reducing pressure on the national grid, as Ghana continues to pursue a more secure and dependable energy future.
