President John Dramani Mahama has decided to pardon Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, over a controversial incident where he was seen handing an undisclosed amount of US dollars to popular evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, known as Nana Agradaa.
The incident sparked widespread criticism and raised concerns about potential breaches of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act and the Code of Conduct for public appointees.
Despite calls for Sammy Gyamfi’s dismissal from civil society groups and minority caucus members, President Mahama has chosen to accept Sammy Gyamfi’s public apology and issue a stern warning instead.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, the President has accepted Gyamfi’s apology and decided not to take further action.
“The President has accepted the apology from Mr. Sammy Gyamfi… While the incident is regrettable, no further action will be taken. However, a firm warning has been issued to Mr. Gyamfi and all public appointees to strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and act at all times in a manner that upholds public confidence,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.
The Minister emphasized the John mahama’s commitment to accountability and ethical governance, noting that the current situation did not warrant Gyamfi’s removal. This decision brings the matter to a close, with Sammy Gyamfi and other public appointees expected to exercise greater caution in their actions moving forward.
