Waste Management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited today commenced a mass disinfection and fumigation of public and private tertiary institutions across the country which is expected to end on Friday.
The exercise which is in partnership with the Ministry of Education is to ensure the safety of the various campuses before the reopening of tertiary institutions as directed by President Akufo Addo in his 21st COVID-19 address to the nation.
Speaking to the media, General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Accra Zone, Ernest Morgan Acquah, said a little over seventy tertiary institutions in the Greater Accra Region will be disinfected to ensure the protection of students, teaching and non teaching staff as well as visitors against the virus.
Mr. Morgan Acquah also urged authorities of the various tertiary institutions to constantly daily disinfect their campuses using the approved chemicals adding that “the daily and constant disinfection of our schools will complement the government’s efforts to reduce the spread of the Covid,” he emphasized.
Whilst lauding efforts by government to combat the virus, he indicated “we are also using the automisers and 10 of them have been deployed in Accra. Monday we exhibited our fleets and we have over 70 automisers, and shared them to the regions, so we have10 nig automisers in Accra and other equipment and we are using all the 10 today,” he added.
Meanwhile some of the institutions disinfected were National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Zenith University College, Madina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) and the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Head of Marketing at Madina Institute of Science and Technology, Mohammed Nnabeele Iddrissu commended Zoomlion and government for the exercise and outline some measures put in place by the institute to complement government’s efforts in the fight against COVID -19.
“We will be having temperature guns at the main entrance of the university, nose mask will be provided to every student. We will be having porters around to ensure that every one on campus will observe the safety protocols as well as other measures including a resident doctor for the university, he emphasized.
Coordinator at Zenith University College, Anthony Mensah said the university will ensure strict compliance of the various safety protocols by students, teaching and non teaching staff as well as visitors.
Other heads of the universities visited were full of praise for zoomlion and government for the disinfections describing it as timely and appropriate.
