The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has expressed regret for what it describes as “insensitive remarks” attributed to its Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 16, ECG stated that the remarks did not “reflect the values and commitment of the MD and ECG to providing reliable electricity services’.
They further stated that the video is an extract from an interview granted over a year ago during the ECG/Manya Krobo deadlock.
The viral video showed the MD of ECG in an interview describing access to electricity as a ‘privilege not a right’. This caused outrage among customers who regarded this statement as insensitive considering the current difficult situation of unstable power supply.
The company also assured customers that steps are being taken to address the current situation by collaborating with key players to find a lasting solution.
They also mentioned that various initiatives have been undertaken to meet the growing electricity demand and enhance operations and customer experience.
