Residents of Winneba in the Effutu constituency in the Central Region have expressed strong disapproval of the performance of their Member of Parliament (MP) Alexander Afenyo-Markin as they took to the streets to show their anger.
Frustrated by the lack of effective representation and disappointed with their Member of Parliament, the residents gathered in large numbers to make their voices heard during a procession dubbed 24-hour Walk organized by opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Effutu Constituency, Dr. James Kofi Annan.
Carrying banners, signs, and chanting slogans, the Residents numbering tens of thousands marched through principal streets of Winneba, highlighting their discontent with their law maker.

They raised concerns about broken promises, neglect of important issues, and rising youth unemployment.
They accused the Alexander Afenyo-Markins who is the majority leader in Ghana’s parliament of being out of touch with the needs and concerns of the constituency.
During the Walk, residents shared personal stories of how they had been adversely affected by their MP’s decisions.
They spoke passionately about pressing issues, lamented over the poor state of development in the constituency, describing the situation as deplorable and retrogressive.
Many argued that the performance of their Member of Parliament had been appalling and unacceptable.
Some residents pointed out specific incidents where they felt their Member of Parliament had demonstrated a lack of integrity or had made questionable decisions.
These incidents further fueled the residents’ anger and strengthened their resolve to express their disapproval.
The Walk garnered attention from the media, putting pressure on Alexander Afenyo-Markins to listen and respond to the grievances of the constituents.
However, instead of engaging with the aggrieved Residents, the MP claimed to be unaware of their concerns.
The Walk signified a growing disconnect between the member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markins and the residents who hoped that their display of disapproval would lead to a change of Alexander Afenyo-Markins as their member of parliament to a more accountable MP who will actively and genuinely represents their interests.
