A political science lecturer, Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would lose terribly in the 2024 elections if Dr. Bawumia does not select a running mate from Ashanti Region.
According to him, the tussle for the running mate slot was causing a lot of disaffection and confusion among contenders and some members of the party which he says has the potential to contribute to the loss of the party in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Sena Nombo on Radio Gold Morning Conversation (GMC), Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng said his analysis of the main contenders convinces him that the minister of education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum was the best to complement Dr. Bawumia despite people referring to him as a “new comer” in the party.
The Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was commenting on publications of the names of five NPP stalwarts the leading contenders for the running mate slot. The five were Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare, Common Fund Administrator Irene Naa Torshie Addo, Education minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Energy minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Defending his choice, Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng stated that Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s track record on political corruption, high level participation in national issues and desire to positively impact Ghana’s politics makes him the best candidate for the position.
He further pointed out that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s “public standing” has suffered a significant blow making him unsuitable for the role.
Dr. Amakye Boateng also ruled out Mr. Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku.
On the Chief of Staff Madam Frema Osei Opare, Dr. Amakye Boateng said her in performance in the role of chief of staff has been unimpressive and she did not appear to have what it took to add value to the NPP Presidential ticket making her a weak candidate for the position.
