Members of the diplomatic community and host dignitaries traded formal attire for sportswear as they gathered for the annual Diplomatic Games, a family fun day designed to foster camaraderie, cultural exchange, and international friendship beyond official conference rooms.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Director Ambassador Khadijah Iddrisu welcomed diplomats, families, and guests, describing the gathering as a vibrant celebration of unity and shared humanity.
“In the cheerfulness of children, the rhythm of music, and the friendly competition of games, we find bridges stronger than treaties and bonds deeper than protocols,” Ambassador Iddrisu remarked. She underscored the event’s theme.ofUnity in Diversity: Connecting Countries, People, and Cultures, noting that physical recreation and social interaction play a vital role in boosting well-being and strengthening cross-culturalties.
Iddrisu paid tribute to diplomatic spouses and families, calling them the “unsung pillars of international friendship” whose constant support sustains the daily demands of diplomatic service. Following an attendance of roughly 1,000 participants at the previous edition, organizers expressed optimism for even higher turnout and deeper engagement across various activity zones and exhibition stands.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the diplomatic community, Ambassador Kufa E. Chinoza of Zimbabwe, Deputy Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for initiating an event that showcases the human side of diplomacy.
“Often, the diplomatic corps is viewed through a distant lens as officials far removed from everyday life,” Ambassador Chinoza noted. “Today brings out the truth: we are friends, families, neighbors, and fellow human beings. Unity is not built in grand halls alone, but also here on the grass, on the court, and through shared laughter.”
He noted that friendly sports competitions serve as a universal language requiring no translators or formal protocols, reinforcing that nations can compete with passion while maintaining mutual respect and goodwill.
The event, supported by the Armed Forces facilities at Burma Camp, featured interactive sports, dynamic games, cultural food displays, and family entertainment, offering diplomats and host institutions a relaxed environment to strengthen international relations.
