Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, has assured artisanal fishermen that a future NDC government will revitalize the fisheries sector, making it profitable once again.
Addressing separate meetings with fisherfolks in Moree and Ekumfi as part of her four-day campaign tour of the central region, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang said artisanal fishermen are currently facing serious challenges due to the bad policies introduced in the sector by the Akufo-Addo government.
She mentioned the high cost of premix fuel and outboard motors as some of the challenges crippling the artisanal fisherfolks.
“Meanwhile, when the NDC was in power, fishermen could afford outboard motors premix fuel they were subsidized and these were all due to the good policies the Mahama government put in place,” she said.
Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang said the NDC has a track record of making the fisheries sector lucrative.
She indicated that the next NDC government will decentralize and subsidize the supply of the premix fuel and outboard motors.
She urged fishermen to cast their votes for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing that his leadership will create opportunities for all Ghanaians.
