The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama says he will conduct an audit of the yet-to-be-constructed Keta Project.
“Once we come into office, the cabinet will ask for all the documents on the Keta Port. We want to see the feasibility study. We want to see the design. So that a definite decision can be taken on the Port”, he said.
Speaking with the people of Keta in the Volta region to wrap up his four-day tour in the region, Mr. Mahama stated that the promise of the Keta Port by the Akufo-Addo-led government was merely political fanfare and that they have not shown sufficient commitment to delivering on this promise.
“This government has turned the Keta Port issue into a political gimmick. It has become a 419, deceiving the people of Keta“, he said.
The NDC Flagbearer hit hard at the Akufo-addo-Bawumia led government for wasting resources on the yet-to-be-constructed project within the last eight years without erecting a single block for the port, which the people of Keta and the Volta Region had so much longed for.
“You have not yet published the feasibility study for us to see. And yet you have a Port Director, Assistant Port Director, port officers, and GHAPOHA people attached to Keta Port, you are paying them. They have 4×4, V8s and everything and meanwhile, only two containers are standing there with a signboard ‘Site for Keta Port’”, he noted.
Mr. Mahama also promised the dredging of the Keta Lagoon, and expanding salt production to improve economic activities as the Lagoon serves as a major source of livelihood in the Keta and Anloga enclaves.
He also outlined the implementation of the 24-hour Economy Policy, and National Apprenticeship Program among others in a bid to create employment and restore the economy.
He indicated further that it was crucial for the NDC to win the December 7 general elections to secure the future of this country.
“If we don’t rescue this country, the future of our young people will be in jeopardy”, he stressed.
