The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has stated that it would be highly improbable for a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the Manhyia South seat.
According to the private legal practitioner turned politician, it is unthinkable for an NDC member to become the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s, Member of Parliament.
“The NDC should never deceive themselves into thinking they can wrest the Manhyia South seat from the NPP. How can this be possible? How is it possible that Otumfuo would wake up one day and find his Member of Parliament will be from the NDC? No, no. If you know the NPP’s history, you’ll understand what I’m saying. The NPP was founded in Manhyia South. So, we cannot sleep and wake up one day to find the NDC occupying the Manhyia South seat. It will never happen, not in our lifetime,” he said in an interview with Oyerepa TV, monitored by GhanaWeb.
He further accused the NDC parliamentary candidate of trying to create tension in the constituency by removing his [Baffour Awuah’s] campaign posters and NPP flags from the area.
“The NDC thinks it can secure the Manhyia South seat, which is why their parliamentary candidate has flooded the area with party flags. He’s been going around destroying NPP flags, and I have reported that to the police. I have filed a complaint at the Zongo Divisional Police Command, and I have also reported the issue to the Police Director of Operations. I am confident they will address the issue.”
Baffour Awuah added, “Ahead of my election, I told polling station executives that I would serve them with humility. But I will jealously guard the Manhyia South seat. That is where one of our founding members, Baffour Osei Akoto, hails from. So, I can’t be a soft person occupying that seat, but I am a lawful person. Otherwise, I would have commissioned people to tear down the NDC candidate’s posters and party flags. We are law-abiding, which is why we have reported the issue to the police.”
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is seeking to replace the NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, in Parliament in the upcoming December 7 parliamentary elections.
