The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has lavished praise on National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice presidential candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, describing her as “humble and respectful.”
The revered traditional leader’s commendation came during a courtesy call by Professor Opoku-Agyemang at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, September 27th.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, known for his wisdom and influential leadership, acknowledged Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s distinguished career and commitment to public service.
“I’ve known her for long; when she was the vice chancellor for the university of Cape Coast, her good works and reverence for me, i’ve always acknowledged that”. the Asantehene said.
He continued, “today, it is a result of politics, my son, John Mahama has selected her as his running mate. I told her the first time when she was selected (2020 elections) to continue being humble and dedicated in her campaign”.
The Asantehene’s kind words reflect the respect and admiration Professor Opoku-Agyemang has earned across Ghana and beyond.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also urged Professor Opoku-Agyemang to continue exhibiting humility and respect as she campaigns alongside NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
He advised Professor Opoku-Agyemang and officials of the NDC party to effectively communicate their party’s policies to the Ghanaian people as the December elections nears.
The Asantehene further issued a strong call for a free, fair, and transparent general election.
He argued that free and fair elections will ensure that Ghanaians accept the outcome of the election results.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said transparency and trustworthiness are critical components that political parties and citizens must embrace to uphold the credibility of the electoral process.
He said that only through free, fair, and transparent elections can Ghana ensure the sustainability of its peace.
On her part, Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude for the Asantehene’s warm reception and wise counsel.
