Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has urged the Electoral Commission to provide serial numbers for all ballot papers to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections.
He emphasized that making these serial numbers known to all political parties would help identify and trace ballots that were in the wrong region.
Iddrisu demanded that the Electoral Commission provide the quantity and serial number of every ballot paper printed for each region, district, and constituency, allowing for monitoring across all regions.
He warned that if a ballot paper meant for the Northern region is found in any other region, they will expose the fraud.
It’s worth noting that election ballots typically do have serial numbers to protect against voter fraud, but these numbers are usually removed during processing to protect voter secrecy
Key Points from Haruna Iddrisu’s Request:
- Transparency and Fairness: Provide serial numbers for all ballot papers to ensure transparency and fairness.
- Monitoring: Allow political parties to monitor ballot papers across all regions.
- Fraud Prevention: Identify and trace ballots that find themselves in the wrong region.
- Accountability: Expose any fraud discovered during the monitoring process.
