John Mahama’s running mate, Professor Opoku Agyemang, has criticized President Akufo-Addo and the Bawumia government for prioritizing self-glorification instead of addressing the needs of suffering Ghanaians.
Speaking during a tour of the North East Region, Professor Opoku Agyemang questioned the decision of the government to unveil a statue of the President in the Western Region amid ongoing economic hardships.
The unveiling of the controversial statue meant to honor the president’s development initiatives has faced backlash on social media, with many Ghanaians perceiving it as an act of self-aggrandizement during a time when many citizens are struggling with rising living costs.
Many Ghanaians have said the location of the statue which is outside a hospital in Sekondi underscores a disconnect between the government of President Akiffo Addo and Dr. Bawumia’s priorities and the everyday challenges faced by citizens.
Professor Opoku Agyemang said the act is in stark contrast to the actions of former Presidents late J.J. Rawlings, John Atta Mills, and current NDC 2024 flagbearer John Mahama.
“I doubt that our predecessors, Jerry John Rawlings, John Atta Mills, and John Mahama, would have ever thought that unveiling statues of themselves would be the most important action at this time,” she stated.
She believed President Akufo-Addo’s should be focused on addressing the increasing cost of living that confront Ghanaians daily and has made life unbearable.
“During the NDC’s time, the price of a bag of cement was under 30 cedis; today, it’s over 100.”
The NDC Veep Candidate urged citizens to come together and vote for John Mahama, whom she believes will prioritize the needs of the people and leave a positive legacy.
She also cautioned against voting along party lines, stating, “Respectfully, I request that there should be no skirts and blouses.”
