John Dramani Mahama, President elect for the Republic of Ghana says he is grateful for the opportunity to sit back and come back again to reset Ghana
He made this statement during a meeting with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches when the clergy paid a visit to congratulate the President elect
As a nation we don’t take it for granted the peace we have been enjoying and the peace in this election
During his electioneering campaign trail the then Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama made a pledge to institute a National Day of Prayer ls and Thanksgiving
According to him the National day of thanksgiving and prayer is still key and we expect the Clergy to take charge. We don’t expect it to be solely a government business, he reiterated.
He requested the clergy to pray for grace and wisdom so that this second opportunity will be worthwhile as the new administration set the agenda to reset Ghana
I will need your support and as I have also been, I will be open and though we have the overwhelming majority, we will consult with the NPP to ensure a united nation
According to John Dramani Mahama the world is looking up to Ghana but in the last few years, the believe in governmental institutions have waned and we have lots to do restore it
“And it’s because, like I said in church yesterday during a Thanksgiving service, we have not been accountable to the people, he added
“We should not to be too happy about the defeat of the New Patriotic Party because Ghanaians are measuring with the same yardstick
Additionally, Ghanaians have always held the NDC to a higher standard because we are a social democracy and they are a property owning democracy, he said
This is a legacy term and I want to give our country my best so that we will reset and leave it for the others to continue
Speaking on his appointments John Dramani Mahama said “I have had people sending their CVs but I have told them it’s not going to be a walk on the park.
He further indicated that some decisions will be harsh but it will be for the interest of the country adding that One of the first things he want do is to relook at the work of the constitutional review committee.
We will hold a national validation conference and relook at things we flagged and if it’s still needs change, for example the role of the speaker so the impasse between the speaker and the Supreme Court, then we know really what the mandate of the speaker is
On energy the President elect said there is the need to undertake a reform in the whole electricity value chain. The goal is to revive the economy, rationalise taxes, and ensure that the youth are employed
There is a limit to what government can employ and so it leaves us to ensure a viable private sector so we give them the needed assistance, he said
Furthermore, the President elect indicated that his office is opened and you can always provide not only spiritual but physical guidance. Government advisory council will be established to carry out annual report on the state of affairs which will give the government a sense of direction of the government.
For his part, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches said Opportunity is sometimes described as time. Others have opportunity but not time but you have both.
He advised the President elect to take this opportunity and take this time
As you have this opportunity always do good as the Bible admonishes, you have experience but experience alone is not enough . You need God to guide you, he said
The GPCC is ready to support your presidency and help you move our nation forward
