The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur has paid a working visit to the Anomabo Fisheries College in the Central Region.
The visit was to assess the state of the college, which has been abandoned for eight years.
During the visit, the minister expressed disappointment at the state of the facilities but pledged to complete the project to make it available for public use.
She noted that the college, when completed, would provide training for the youth in fisheries and aquaculture.
Upon completion, the Anomabo Fisheries College is expected to become a center of excellence for fisheries education, contributing to the sustainable development of the country’s fisheries sector.
The Anomabo Fisheries College was initiated by the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ government and was near completion during the first President John Mahama’s administration.
However, the project was abandoned by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, leaving it to decay.
Emelia Arthur who is also the member of parliament of the Shama constituency assured that the new government of President John Mahama would work tirelessly to complete the project.
She explained the importance of the college in promoting sustainable fisheries management and ensuring food security.
The minister was accompanied by the member of parliament for the Mfantseman constituency, Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin, senior staff of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, some chiefs and community members who expressed their gratitude for the government’s commitment to completing the project.
