The Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice have dismissed claims of lost evidence in the ongoing criminal trial of former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and three others.

In a social media post on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem Sai, emphasised the office’s readiness to prosecute the matter, outlining the comprehensive documentation filed to support the case.

“The Attorney General’s Office has not lost any evidence regarding the ongoing Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial,” he wrote.

According to Dr Justice Srem Sai, as of June 18, 2025, the Attorney General’s Office had filed all necessary documents to prove the charges against the four accused persons.

“As of June 18, we had filed all the documents we intend to rely on to prove the charges against the four accused persons in the case. The documents include contracts of sale, bank wire transfer records, bank account statements, company registration documents, property ownership records, purchase receipts, INTERPOL stolen vehicle records, investigative caution statements, charge statements of each accused person, records of asset non-declaration, a flowchart of money movements through a complex web of bank accounts, and testimonies of our three prosecution witnesses,” he disclosed.

Dr Justice Srem Sai further noted that court-certified copies of all these documents have been duly served on each of the accused persons, making it “unrealistic” for claims of lost evidence to jeopardise the prosecution.

“The documents are secure, and the case is on a solid footing,” he added.4

Deputy Attorney General breaks silence on alleged missing evidences in Adu-Boahene trial

On the status of the case, the Deputy Attorney General said the trial, which commenced before the legal vacation on July 31, 2025, has seen significant progress.

He noted that the first of the three prosecution witnesses, has completed his testimony and has been cross-examined by the legal representatives of three of the four accused persons.

“The trial will resume in earnest in mid-October when the courts return from the legal vacation,” he wrote.

Kwabena Adu Boahene, who served as NSB Director-General from 2017 until February 2025, faces 11 charges alongside his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, their associate Mildred Donkor, and their company, Advantage Solutions Limited.

The charges, filed on April 30, 2025, at the High Court in Accra, include stealing, conspiracy to steal, defrauding by false pretences, willfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, collaboration to commit a crime, obtaining public property by false statement, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The allegations center on the misappropriation of GH¢49.1 million (approximately $7 million) earmarked for a cybersecurity defense software contract signed in 2020.

The case forms part of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) campaign by the current John Dramani Mahama government.
