The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has commissioned a 24-Hour Premium & Express Service Centre in Accra as part of government efforts to reset public sector service delivery and accelerate access to housing-related services under the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

The facility was commissioned on Thursday, January 29, 2026, by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at a ceremony attended by the Legal Counsel to the President, Members of Parliament, the Board and Management of SHC, representatives from the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), heads of government agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Commissioning the centre, Hon. Adjei commended the Board, Management and staff of SHC for their foresight, leadership and commitment to institutional transformation, describing the initiative as a clear example of how public sector organisations can be innovative, customer-focused and performance-driven.
He stressed, however, that the success of the facility would not be measured solely by its extended operating hours but by the quality of service, integrity of processes, and consistency of delivery.

“The true success of this facility will not be measured by the length of operating hours alone, but by the quality of service, integrity of process, and consistency of delivery,” the Minister stated.

He urged SHC management to ensure the centre is adequately staffed, properly resourced and continuously monitored, warning against a decline in standards over time.

“Usually, we start things very well, but as time goes on, it becomes a different ball game. Let this centre become a model of excellence within the housing sector and across the wider public service,” he said.

The Minister expressed confidence that the centre would play a vital role in operationalising the President’s 24-Hour Economy Policy, while reaffirming government’s commitment to transforming the housing sector through strong institutions, innovative policies and strategic partnerships to deliver decent, affordable and sustainable housing for all Ghanaians.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director of SHC John S. Bawa said the new service centre reflects the company’s renewed commitment to efficiency, transparency, and citizen-focused service delivery, in line with the Government’s Reset Agenda under President John Dramani Mahama.

He explained that the centre will operate 24 hours a day, enabling clients to process documents, make payments, resolve tenancy issues and access customer support both physically and by phone, without unnecessary delays.

“This facility represents faster service, reduced waiting time, improved customer care and round-the-clock access. It is about respecting the time and needs of the Ghanaian people,” he said.
The Managing Director outlined SHC’s medium-term strategic plan aimed at addressing Ghana’s housing deficit while improving estate management and strengthening the company’s brand as the nation’s most valued housing partner.

According to him, over 300 housing units are scheduled for completion nationwide by the end of 2026. He further announced planned urban redevelopment projects at Kaneshie, Kanda, Adenta and Effiakuma Estates in Takoradi, which are expected to deliver more than 500 housing units in the short to medium term.

Mr. John Bawa noted that the redevelopment programme aligns with President Mahama’s vision to repurpose ageing government estates in major urban centres to meet growing housing demand.

The Managing Director also revealed that SHC will launch the Dedesua Housing Project in Kumasi’s Garden City within the first half of 2026. The large-scale development is expected to provide over 1,000 housing units, alongside essential social infrastructures, including schools, health facilities, and recreational spaces.

On estate management, he disclosed that SHC has successfully renewed headleases for five key estates—Teshie-Nungua, Achimota, North Labone, East Cantonments and Kaneshie, describing the achievement as a major milestone. He cautioned that enforcement actions will soon begin to reclaim SHC assets currently occupied without consent.

In support of the Ministry’s housing agenda, SHC is participating in the Greenville District Housing Scheme, completing abandoned affordable housing projects in Koforidua, Wa and Tamale, and executing 25 per cent of the Pokuase Housing Project. These initiatives are expected to deliver over 2,000 additional housing units nationwide.

The Managing Director further announced that SHC is constructing seven regional headquarters buildings and residential apartments for the Ghana Immigration Service, with plans to extend similar projects to the Ghana Prisons Service and the Ghana Police Service.

Looking ahead, he said SHC will expand its operations to Ho, Dawhenya and newly created regions, with an office in Damongo in the Savannah Region expected to open before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, the SHC Board led by Mr. Ralph Roland, management and staff for their support.

“SHC is not only building houses; we are building trust and modern systems aligned with national development priorities. Together, we will deliver housing services that truly meet the needs of every Ghanaian,” he said.

The family of the late Dr. Samuel Sarpong was present, as the facility was named in honour of the former Managing Director of State Housing Company, who died with others in a helicopter crash.
