Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has announced that he will no longer serve on the investigation committee set up by the National Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to probe allegations of inducement and vote buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.
In a post on X, Ayariga said his decision follows the position taken by the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament, which called for the cancellation of the primary and disqualification of any candidates found to have engaged in unethical practices.
He added that he has notified the party to appoint a suitable replacement in his place.
The NDC parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East, held on February 7, 2026, has been marred by allegations that some delegates were given items such as television sets and boiled eggs, fueling claims of vote buying.
The controversy prompted the NDC to form a three-member committee, chaired by former Information Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Ayariga and lawyer Emefa Fugah as members, to investigate the matter and make recommendations. The committee is expected to submit its report by February 10, 2026.
The NDC has emphasised that the probe is part of its commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and ethical political conduct, and is expected to propose sanctions as well as reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
