President John Dramani Mahama will be attending the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 14th to 15th February 2026, accompanied by the first lady, H.E. Mrs. Lordina Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and other dignitaries.
While in Addis Ababa, the President will hold a High-Level Breakfast Convening on Strategic Partnership on ‘The Accra Reset Initiative’s at the AU Headquarters.
The theme for the AU Summit focuses on “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” Ghanaians are encouraged to take inspiration from the theme of the Summit to support the President to win the battle against illegal mining, which has been a threat to the country’s water bodies for some time now.
President Mahama’s commitment to restoring the sanctity of the affected water bodies in Ghana is commendable. Upon assuming the administration of the country, he committed to salvage the troubled water bodies from illegal mining activities, and that is exactly what he has been doing.
Without the support and cooperation of the citizens, however, the effort of the president may not achieve the desired results. It is against this backdrop that this call is placed to galvanize the support of all and sundry to join the President in the fight against this menace.
The fight to restore the sanctity of the water bodies is a war for survival. It is a war that is linked to the collective interest of all Ghanaians. Presidents will come and go but the collective interest of the nation remains so let’s fight together with him.
