The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that 21 suspects have been picked up in connection with the deadly attack on a military-escorted civilian convoy in Binduri in the Upper East Region.
The updated figure represents a sharp increase from an earlier report which put the number of arrests at 11.
The incident occurred on Monday, 27 April 2026, when armed men ambushed a convoy transporting approximately 140 civilians travelling from Bawku to Bolgatanga. The convoy came under intense gunfire, resulting in the deaths of three civilians, while another sustained injuries.
Providing an update on the situation, Acting Director-General of Public Relations for the military, Veronica Adzo Arhin, disclosed that all 21 suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
She indicated that security operations in the area are still active, with efforts underway to track down additional individuals believed to be linked to the attack.
According to her, seven of the assailants were killed during a gun battle with military personnel at the scene.
Captain Arhin also issued a strong warning to the public against confronting security officers, particularly during official assignments, stressing that such actions could lead to avoidable casualties.
The Ghana Armed Forces further assured that it is collaborating with other security agencies to restore calm in the area and prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
