The Ministry of Food and Agriculture will on Tuesday begin the distribution of 40,000 bags of fertiliser to peasant farmers across the country as part of efforts to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen national food security.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, who said the intervention forms part of government’s broader strategy to support farmers with critical inputs ahead of the farming season.
According to the Minister, the initiative is aimed at improving crop yields, reducing production challenges faced by smallholder farmers, and enhancing food production across the country.
In addition to the fertiliser distribution, the Ministry is expected to deploy agricultural drones to support modern farming practices, improve efficiency, and boost productivity within the sector.
Hon. Opoku noted that supporting peasant farmers remains central to government’s agricultural transformation agenda, given their significant contribution to national food production and rural livelihoods.
The intervention comes at a time when government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector, improve food availability, and reduce the country’s dependence on food imports.
