The Chief Executive Officer of Produce Buying Company (PBC) Limited, Seidu Yonye, has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama inherited a severely weakened company when he returned to office in January 2025, contrasting it with what he described as a strong and profitable enterprise handed over at the end of Mahama’s previous administration.

Speaking in an interview with Ransford Boakye (RKB) on Radio Gold’s afternoon political programme, Pampaso, Mr. Yonye said PBC had a 30.8% market share and positive equity in 2016 when President Mahama left office.

According to him, the company’s position at the time reflected a healthy and competitive business capable of generating value within Ghana’s cocoa purchasing sector.

“President Mahama handed over PBC with a 30.8% market share and positive equity,” Mr. Yonye stated, arguing that the figures demonstrated the strength of the company at the time.

The PBC CEO contrasted that situation with what he described as the company’s condition when the current administration took office in January 2025.

“When he came back in January 2025, he inherited a market share close to zero with negative equity,” he said.

Mr. Yonye urged the public to assess the performance of the company based on available records rather than political considerations, insisting that the figures speak for themselves.

He argued that market share remains one of the clearest indicators of a company’s competitiveness and commercial strength, particularly within Ghana’s cocoa sector, where licensed buying companies compete for market presence and producer confidence.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the financial health and future direction of PBC, one of Ghana’s oldest indigenous companies and a key player in the country’s cocoa value chain.

Mr. Yonye maintained that the company’s current management is focused on rebuilding its operational strength and restoring its relevance within the industry, while emphasizing the need for an objective assessment of its performance over the years.
