The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Gbeho and related families, has announced that a State Funeral will be held in honour of the late Ambassador James Victor Gbeho in recognition of his outstanding service to Ghana and the international community.
The State Burial is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Ambassador James Victor Gbeho was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most accomplished statesmen and diplomats. During his distinguished career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he rose through the ranks, serving as Chief Director, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and ultimately as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
His contributions extended beyond Ghana’s borders.
He served as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Somalia and later as President of the ECOWAS Commission, where he played a significant role in promoting regional integration, peace, and diplomacy across West Africa.
The Government of Ghana has expressed its deepest condolences to the Gbeho family and all those mourning his passing, describing his legacy as one of exemplary public service, diplomacy, and dedication to both Ghana and the international community.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament, Spokesperson to the President, and Minister for Government Communications.
