Ghana and Gabon have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following the official visit of the President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, to Ghana.
A joint communiqué issued at the end of the visit in Accra said President John Dramani Mahama welcomed his Gabonese counterpart and described the visit as a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the two African nations.
The two leaders held bilateral discussions on a wide range of issues, including trade and investment, energy, mining, agriculture, transport, health, education, defence and security, environmental protection, and regional peace and stability. They also exchanged views on continental issues and pledged to work together to advance Africa’s development agenda.
According to the communiqué, Ghana and Gabon agreed to intensify economic cooperation by encouraging greater private sector participation and increasing investments in strategic sectors. The leaders also expressed support for expanding trade between the two countries under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The two presidents further committed to strengthening collaboration in the oil and gas, mining, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and infrastructure sectors while promoting technology transfer and industrial development. They also pledged to deepen cooperation in education, vocational training and capacity building.
On regional and international matters, Ghana and Gabon reaffirmed their dedication to peace, democracy, good governance and security across Africa. They called for stronger cooperation among African countries to address terrorism, climate change and other shared challenges confronting the continent.
The communiqué concluded with both leaders expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the visit and directing their respective ministers and officials to ensure the timely implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation.
President Oligui Nguema thanked President Mahama and the people of Ghana for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during the visit, describing it as a milestone in the growing friendship between the two countries.
