Aspiring National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edem Segbefia, has received the giant trophy that will be competed for during the upcoming Young Progressive Network Oblogo Homowo Football Gala Fiesta 2026, as part of the organisers’ ongoing trophy tour.
The trophy tour is aimed at presenting the coveted prize to distinguished invited guests while officially inviting them to grace the two-day football festival.
Receiving the trophy from the organisers, Dr. Segbefia commended the Young Progressive Network for what he described as a visionary initiative to unite the youth through sports.
He noted that the football gala would promote unity, peace, sportsmanship and community development, adding that such initiatives create opportunities for young people to interact positively and contribute to the growth of Oblogo and its surrounding communities.
“This initiative will foster unity, tranquility, sportsmanship and development that will inure to the benefit of the youth and the community,” Dr. Segbefia stated.
He further applauded the organisers for their commitment to youth empowerment and pledged his support for the event, which will feature twelve football teams from Oblogo and neighbouring communities competing for honours.
The Convener of the Young Progressive Network, Patrick Asford Boadu, explained that the football gala forms part of activities marking the 2026 Homowo celebrations and is intended to strengthen community cohesion while identifying and nurturing young football talents.
Activities will begin on Friday, 14 August 2026, with the BONNET Health Walk, scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
The main football competition and other entertainment activities will then take place on Saturday, 15 August and Sunday, 16 August 2026, promising two days of exciting football and community celebration.
The organisers have announced that former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour for the event.
