Ewura Adams Karim, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to establish a stronger rapid-response communication system to counter opposition propaganda with facts and figures within hours.
He said the party needed a more coordinated and responsive communication strategy to sustain the confidence of its grassroots supporters, attract undecided voters and effectively communicate the achievements of the government.
Mr Karim made the pledge in a declaration speech following his decision to contest the position, outlining a five-point agenda aimed at strengthening the party’s communication structures and improving its engagement with members and the wider Ghanaian public.
He said the NDC needed communicators who could inspire hope among grassroots supporters, persuade undecided voters through clear and compelling messaging, and respond to opposition criticism with evidence rather than insults.
“Not with insults, but with facts. Not with noise, but with proof. Quickly, calmly and with confidence,” he said, describing the approach he believed the party should adopt in responding to its political opponents.
Mr Karim, who has experience in broadcasting, public speaking and community mobilisation, pledged to develop a pipeline of trained communicators across the regions and constituencies to strengthen the party’s communication capacity.
He also promised to establish a structured platform for grassroots members, ensuring that their concerns, experiences and sacrifices featured prominently in the party’s messaging.
Another priority, he said, would be to strengthen the NDC’s digital and youth presence while maintaining the founding principles of the party.
Mr Karim stressed that the party’s communication strategy must go beyond defending government policies to ensuring that ordinary Ghanaians understood what the government was delivering and how its policies affected their lives.
“We are a party in government. The stakes of how we communicate have never been higher,” he said.
Experience and community service
Mr Karim cited his professional experience and community development work as part of the credentials he would bring to the position if elected.
He is a co-founder and executive director of the Maltiti Foundation, which, according to his declaration speech, has provided free healthcare to more than 8,000 people across the Northern, Savannah and Oti regions.
The foundation has also trained women in agriculture, supported job creation, delivered food to more than 2,000 families in collaboration with the Accra Food Bank, and provided vocational skills and reproductive health education to vulnerable women and girls.
In media, Mr Karim has worked with Class FM and WoezorTV. He also cited his experience in student leadership and debate competitions, as well as his participation in international leadership programmes, including the Obama Africa Leaders initiative and the Mandela Washington Fellowship.
He said his years of communicating, listening, strategising and engaging with grassroots members had prepared him for the responsibilities of the position.
Commitment to party unity
Mr Karim also pledged to promote unity within the party and ensure that different groups, including young people, women, persons with disabilities and communities across the country, had a voice in its communication activities.
He called on party elders and founding members to offer him their guidance, while urging young people to take an active role in shaping the party’s future.
To delegates who will determine the outcome of the contest, he promised to work diligently, listen to their concerns and serve the party with commitment.
Mr Karim said his ambition was rooted in a lifelong association with the NDC, explaining that he grew up in a family with a strong political background.
His mother was an active member of the 31st December Women’s Movement, while his father, Alhaji Seidu Karim, served in various local government positions, including as a district chief executive.
He said those experiences shaped his understanding of politics as a commitment to sacrifice, service and giving ordinary people a voice.
Mr Karim maintained that his proposed communication strategy would seek to strengthen the party’s relationship with its grassroots supporters while improving its ability to engage undecided voters and respond to political criticism.
He has picked nomination forms to contest for the position of Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC.
