President John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with officials of the Boeing Group as part of efforts to re-establish Ghana’s national airline.
The Boeing Group is supporting Ghana in its ambition to revive a national carrier, with preliminary studies conducted so far affirming the viability of the proposed airline project.
Following the engagement, a roadmap for establishing the new airline has been agreed upon, outlining key steps required to facilitate its successful take-off and operations.
The roadmap includes the search for a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, acquisition of an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), fleet selection, and decisions on the financing arrangements for the project.
Officials of the Boeing Group assured President Mahama of their continued support throughout the establishment process and the subsequent operations of the new national carrier.
The proposed airline is expected to enhance the utilisation of Ghana’s improved airport infrastructure and advance President Mahama’s vision of positioning Accra as the premier aviation hub in West Africa.
Beyond strengthening Ghana’s aviation industry and international connectivity, the establishment of the national airline is also expected to create thousands of employment opportunities across the sector.
These opportunities will include positions for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers, aviation management specialists and other professionals within the aviation value chain.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to reposition Ghana’s aviation sector, stimulate economic growth and maximise the country’s strategic potential as a regional aviation and transportation hub.
