The Running Mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang says the NDC is not worried about other parties copying its manifesto because those parties do not have the blueprint for implementation.

According to her, the provisions in the party’s manifesto are backed with well thought-out implementation plans, which those copying do not have.

The Running Mate was responding to a question by a member of the Western Regional House of Chiefs in Takoradi during an interaction.

The chief asked whether the NDC was concerned with the ruling party’s moves to implement some of the programs in the NDC’s manifesto, such as the legalization of the Okada transport business.

In response, the NDC Running mate said, “we have a proper implementation plan. If you copy our manifesto without knowing the plan, you will fail and be exposed,” she stressed.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who is in the region on a campaign tour, said the NDC’s manifesto, which is dubbed the People’s Manifesto was developed based on extensive grassroot consultation to ensure that the policies and programmes pursued when the NDC returns to government, were meaningful to the people.

“We believe that governance should be about solving problems and promoting socio-economic development, which the NDC has the best tract record.”

Touching on how an NDC government would support the chieftaincy institution, the NDC Running mate said the NDC has always considered chiefs and queenmothers as development partners, and would actively collaborate with the chiefs to enhance development in their areas.

She gave various instances where the previous NDC administration partnered chiefs and queenmothers to solve developmental challenges.

Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang cited the significant reduction in public school teacher absenteeism as one of the feats that was achieved through the support of queenmothers across the country.

“We shall work with the traditional leaders to enhance our land administration and also fight moral decadence which is affecting our society,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the chiefs of continued support with development projects in their respective traditional areas when the NDC returns to power, and called for their support in that regard.

Welcoming the Running Mate, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs Ogyeahohu Yaw Gyebi II, asked for support, and urged the NDC to invest more in the chieftaincy institutions and development of the area, when it wins power.
