John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, an organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the late President John Atta Mills, has announced a five-year strategic plan aimed at honoring the life and works of the late former President.

The plan was unveiled on 11 July, 2024 at a news conference in Accra addressed by Alex Segbefia, chairman of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage.

Central to the preservation efforts is an exciting range of activities, including annual lectures, sports tournaments, commissioned documentaries, and an advocacy strategy to continue the uncompleted initiatives started by the late Atta Mills during his presidency.

According Alex Segbefia, the organization plans to host an annual lecture series, inviting renowned intellectuals, politicians, and scholars to explore and discuss the late president’s ideologies and contributions.

He indicated that the lectures will serve as a platform for the public to engage in valuable discussions, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of President Atta Mills’s vision for Ghana.

As part of the organization’s extensive plans, a documentary on the life and works of the late president will be commissioned.

This documentary will aim to commemorate his inspiring journey, highlighting his achievements, principles, and the challenges he overcame throughout his political career.

Alex Segbefia stated that the Atta Mills Memorial Heritage would seek to implement the uncompleted projects initiated by the late president while in office.

Recognizing the importance of completing these projects, the organization is set to develop a robust advocacy strategy, working closely with relevant stakeholders to push for their completion.

This effort will support the continuation of President Atta Mills’s vision and demonstrate the organization’s commitment to the development of Ghana.

In addition to these initiatives, the organization also plans to institute prestigious awards and scholarships for Ghanaian students enrolled in tertiary institutions.

These awards and scholarships will recognize and support outstanding academic achievements, promoting excellence and motivating students to emulate the late president’s dedication to education and national development.

Atta Mills Memorial Heritage also intends to promote inter-schools hockey competitions across the country.

Through partnerships with schools, students will have a platform to showcase their skills in hockey, fostering talent development and promoting team spirit among the youth.

Again, the organization aims to sponsor the development of Astro Turf hockey competitions, providing state-of-the-art facilities for players and enabling Ghanaian hockey teams to compete at a higher level internationally.

These initiatives will boost the popularity and growth of hockey in Ghana, nurturing the sport at all levels.
