Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, on Monday 28 April, 2025 became the first recipient of Ghana’s newly introduced chip-embedded passport, marking a significant milestone in the country’s passport service reforms.
The historic event took place at the Passport Office in Accra, where Mr. Debrah officially launched the issuance of the new biometric passports.
His visit highlighted the government’s commitment to modernizing travel documents and enhancing the security and efficiency of Ghana’s passport system.
The introduction of the chip-embedded passport is part of broader reforms aimed at aligning Ghana’s travel documents with international standards, improving data security, and making the passport issuance process faster and more reliable.
During his visit, Mr. Debrah praised officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for their efforts in implementing the new system, emphasizing that the reforms would greatly benefit Ghanaian travelers and strengthen the nation’s global identity.
The new passports, which contain an electronic chip with the holder’s biometric information, are expected to help reduce identity fraud and speed up immigration processes at international borders.
The rollout of the chip-embedded passport is seen as a major step in improving public service delivery under the government’s modernization agenda.
