Some five passengers have died in a road crash involving a Toyota Hiace minibus and a Daf truck on the Akim-Birimso part of the Accra-Kumasi highway in the Eastern Region.
The deceased, one of them being the driver, were among 13 people on the bus when the accident happened.
They were crushed to death when their vehicle skidded off the road and rammed the Daf low-bed articulated truck with registration number AK 1145 – 21.
The police said the now-deceased driver of the passenger bus with registration number GT 3799-16, lost control of the vehicle at Akyem Asiakwa near Bunso, just before hitting the rear end of the truck which was loaded with water pumping machines and headed in the opposite direction toward Kumasi.
He died instantly along with four of his passengers.
The remaining survivors are being treated for their injuries at the Hawa Memorial Hospital in Osiem.
The bodies of those who died have been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital for autopsy, preservation, and identification.
