The Northern Regional Manager for National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Alhaji Abdallah Abdul-Mumin has cautioned persons living close to the white and black Volta to move to higher grounds.
According to NADMO, a report from neighbouring Burkina Faso has indicated that it has become necessary as a result of the spillage of the Bagre Dam which is at 234.09m spillage levels.
The report further indicated that the Bagre Dam’s levels are rising rapidly and the opening of the valves can start between August 27 and August 30, 2021.
Each year, the Bagre Dam is spilt to allow excess water to be taken out. This has over the years been a bane to various communities and farmers as their crops are been washed away by the water that is spilt.
