Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has exposed Ministers of Works and Housing and Sanitation for releasing Ghc100,000,000 to a company, Dredge Masters to desilt the Odaw drain.
Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni who blew the cover of the government on the deal wondered why Ibrahim Mahama was able to do the same work at no cost to the state but today same costs Ghc100,000,000 to execute.
The two ministries behind the deal have kept silent since the scandal broke.
Manasseh Azure who leads the Fourth Estate of Ghana, an investigative website wondered why a temporary solution like fetching sand out of the Odaw will cost Ghc100,000,000 to execute even as a letter has been issued for withdrawal from Ghana’s Sanitation and Pollution Account to pay Dredge Masters.
“In 2015, President Mahama’s brother Ibrahim Mahama used the government’s equipment to dredge the Odaw for free. Hell broke loose with all manner of accusations from the opposition NPP. In this hardship when even National Service Personnel cannot be paid, the NPP is paying a Zoomlion sister company ONE HUNDRED MILLION GHANA CEDIS for work on the Odaw.” Manasseh wrote.
“The perennial fetching of sand and other waste materials from the Odaw isn’t a permanent solution. So why does the government not employ operators to use its equipment to dredge as Ibrahim Mahama did? The cost of maintaining the equipment and paying the operators won’t be GHc100,000,000.” He added.
“Where are the machines and equipment Ibrahim Mahama used to dredge for free? And what processes did the government use to pick Zoomlion’s sister company for this job? Or does asking these questions amount to hate Zoomlion or Akufo-Addo’s NPP?” He asked.
