Former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fomena Constituency, Akwasi Nti Asamoah has vowed to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias ‘Wontumi’ does not get another shot at his position as the party prepares to elect new officers next year.
The man who until recently served as Chairman Wontumi’s Chief of Staff and the mastermind of all his “dirty work” declared on live radio that it is time that his bosom friend of 8 years is voted out of office.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Mr Akwasi Nti identified Chairman Wontumi as the NPP’s biggest problem in the Ashanti region and that his continuous stay in office would push the party to opposition.
“I have been with Wontumi for eight good years and have done all his dirty works so I know what I’m talking about; he is a greedy liar; he has hijacked all the juicy contracts and left all others who suffered to bring the party to power to suffer”, he told Kofi Asante, the host of the programme.
Chairman Akwasi Nti gave instances of how Wontumi has allotted to himself all contracts at the Kejetia Market, including cleaning and security, apart from the big contracts in the road and construction sector.
“I will reveal every dirty secret of Wontumi in the coming months and nothing would stop me from ensuring that he doesn’t get re-elected; it is time that he gives way for another person to steer the affairs of the party after he led us to lose 3 seats despite promising to win all the 47 seats in the region in the lead up to the 2020 elections”, Kwasi Nti said.
Independent checks by this portal suggest that all the loyalists of Wontumi have deserted him even as he campaigns for a third term; of the many party Communicators and serial callers, none have so far stuck their neck for him.
Many party faithful believes that Wontumi is running a one-man show and has silenced all other voices of reason in the party; his open display of gold bars on live TV also appears to be a shot in the foot as many attributes the decline in NPP votes in the 2020 elections to that eyesore.
His failure to complete the much talked about regional party office complex even after a grand launch and a mammoth fundraising event that was supervised by the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia has also been mentioned as a good reason for him to bow out.
According to Chairman Akwasi Nti, “Wontumi would be a stumbling block to the NPP’s agenda of ‘Breaking the 8’, judging from the number of votes from the 2020 elections which were short by 500,000 as compared to what we got in 2016, all because our party is increasingly becoming unpopular due to one man”.
It is the current Chairman of the NPP in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah who has been tipped to win the election if his current popularity within the rank and file of the party is anything to go by.
