Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Immigration Service Headquarters in Accra. The visit, which was aimed at interacting with the management and staff of the Service, afforded the Minister the opportunity to gain firsthand information on the Service’s operations.
In his remarks, the Minister acknowledged the crucial role the Ghana Immigration Service plays in guarding the borders of the country. He commended the Service for its efforts in regulating and monitoring the entry, residence, employment and exit of all foreigners, not forgetting the movement of Ghanaians into and out of the country. He also praised the Ghana Immigration Service for detecting and stopping threats at all the entry points of the country.
“ On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, I want to thank you sincerely for all the sacrifices you are making to keep our country safe. You are the first contact to any foreign person entering the country. Even our own citizens who travel, you are the first point of call, you are the first they meet and the impression they have of you starts with the impression they have of the country I must commend you for all the hard work you put in and also to acknowledge the massive reform and improvement in the general services that the Immigration Services provide, Hon Mubarak said.
Hon. .Muntaka pointed out that as part of the resetting agenda of the President John Mahama administration, it will be prudent for the government to retool the Immigration Service as well as boosting the morale of officers to achieve its set out mandate.
‘’We know that issues such as promotions, transfers, and accommodation amongst many others are of concern to you and I as the representative of the president will take the necessary steps to retool you and make you prepared and ready to protect our bodies safe so that the generality of Ghanaian can feel safe’’
He acknowledges that even though the challenges may be enormous, it is his expectation that the Immigration Services together with the other security agencies that make up the national security architecture, does everything humanly possible to keep the country safe
