The John Mahama 2024 Campaign has categorically denied rumors that he plans to cancel feeding payments for the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy if elected.
According to his campaign team, Mahama has consistently expressed support for the policy and never announced any intention to cancel feeding payments.
“In fact, Mahama’s team emphasizes that his administration will address challenges facing the policy and work with stakeholders to improve its implementation,” the campaign stated.
The team referenced pages 92 and 94 of the NDC 2024 Resetting Ghana Manifesto, which outline Mahama’s plans for secondary education:
- Provide a dedicated and sustainable funding source for quality secondary education by ring-fencing a percentage of oil proceeds.
- Decentralize the procurement of food and other basic supplies to ensure timely food supply and improve quality and quantity.
- Abolish the double-track system to restore a stable academic calendar.
- Extend free SHS to cover students in private Senior High Schools.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, campaign aide, described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
“John Mahama commenced the progressively free senior high school policy, and his future administration will work to improve its implementation,” Mogtari stated.
