Kalsoume Sinare to Madrid, Nii Amasah Namoale to Brasilia, Kojo Bonsu to Beijing

President John Dramani Mahama, has nominated 15 individuals for appointment as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-General Designates to represent Ghana in various diplomatic missions abroad.

The nominations, made in consultation with the Council of State, are subject to parliamentary approval.

Once formalised, the appointments will contribute to Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance international cooperation.

Among the nominees is celebrated veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare, who has been nominated as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.

Other notable appointments include former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, who has been nominated as Ghana’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China; former Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale, nominated for the Federative Republic of Brazil; and Captain George Kofi Nfojoh, also a former MP for Ho Central, who is designated for the Republic of Togo.

The nominations were communicated in a letter dated 10 June 2025 from the Office of the President, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama. The letter confirms that the nominations were made in accordance with Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Vice President, the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, have all been formally notified. The foreign minister has been specifically instructed to initiate the processes required to facilitate the appointment of the nominees.

The list of nominees and their respective postings are Benjamin A Quashie for the Republic of South Africa, Hammed Rashid Tunde Ali for the United Arab Emirates, Grace El Mahmoud Marabe for the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Prof. Ohene Adjei for the Federal Republic of Germany, Abdul Nasiru-Deen for the Republic of Turkey, and Theresah Adjei-Mensah for the Czech Republic.

Others are Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso to India, Dr Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh for Canada, Dr Margaret Miewien Chebere for Denmark, Labik Joseph Yaani for Equatorial Guinea and Dr Felix Kumah Godwin Anebo for the Republic of Senegal.

Kalsoume Sinare is a renowned Ghanaian actress and model with a career spanning over three decades. She graduated from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, also from GIMPA.

Sinare rose to prominence in the Ghanaian film industry in the 1990s, debuting on stage in Theatre Mirrors and later in film with Out of Sight (1993). She became popular for her lead role in Babina, a religious-themed horror film that earned her national recognition.

Her extensive filmography includes over fifty films such as Trinity, 4ever Young, The Five Brides, and The New Sun. She received a Zulu African Film Academy Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Trinity (2010) and multiple nominations at the Ghana Movie Awards, including for 3 Some (2013). In 2017, she won the Golden Actress award in the Drama category at the Golden Movie Awards for her lead role in Sala.

Sinare represented Ghana at the 1990 Miss Model of the World pageant and was a regular face in television commercials during the early stages of her career.

She is married to Ghanaian international footballer Anthony Baffoe. Both she and her husband practice Islam. Sinare has been an active supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), attending President Mahama’s inauguration in 2013 and publicly endorsing him again in 2016.

She is also the sister of Said Sinare, a Ghanaian politician and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
