President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Krobo Odumase Divisional Police Headquarters, underscoring the critical role of security in national development and pledging continued investment in the country’s security architecture.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama described security as the foundation upon which progress in all sectors depends.

“Without peace and stability there can be no meaningful progress, no thriving businesses, no quality education and no sustainable livelihoods,” he stated.

Strengthening the Police Service

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Police Service, noting that it remains the frontline institution in maintaining law and order.

He revealed that government had procured 40 armored vehicles for the police, which have significantly enhanced efforts to combat armed robbery nationwide.

“I am happy to inform the IGP that another 40 armored cars are coming,” he announced, emphasizing the need to adequately equip officers to ensure their safety in the line of duty.

President Mahama contrasted this with past practices where lightly protected vehicles were deployed for high-risk operations, resulting in casualties among officers.

“We don’t want that to happen again. They must be able to go and work for us and return safely to their families,” he said.

Modern Policing Approach

He outlined his vision of building a modern, professional, and people-centered police service that focuses not only on responding to crime but also preventing it through intelligence and community collaboration.

The newly commissioned headquarters, he noted, represents this vision in action by decentralizing policing and bringing law enforcement closer to communities.

“This headquarters will serve as a strategic hub for intelligence gathering, crime prevention and rapid response,” he said, adding that it will improve coordination and policing effectiveness across Krobo land and the Eastern Region.

Commendation and Leadership

President Mahama commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board for their leadership and ongoing reforms, particularly the shift toward intelligence-led policing.

“In an era where crime is becoming increasingly sophisticated, our response must also be dynamic and forward-looking,” he noted.

He also praised the system of recognizing and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional service, describing it as a strong motivation for professionalism within the service.

Training and Professional Development

On capacity building, the President disclosed that government has expanded access to police training by approving additional candidates for the Police College.

He explained that beyond the initial 700 officers who met the 53 percent cutoff mark, an additional 300 officers who scored between 50 and 53 percent will also be admitted.

Tribute to E.R.T. Madjitey

The commissioning ceremony coincided with the 30th anniversary of the passing of E. R. T. Madjitey, Ghana’s first African Inspector-General of Police and a native of Krobo land.

President Mahama described the occasion as symbolic, noting that the facility stands as a tribute to Madjitey’s legacy of discipline, excellence, and visionary leadership.

Call for Community Partnership

The President urged residents of Krobo land to actively support the police by providing information and participating in community policing initiatives.

“Security is a shared responsibility the effectiveness of this headquarters will depend not only on the officers but also on your cooperation,” he said.

Future Plans and Support

President Mahama assured that government will continue to invest in infrastructure, logistics, and human resource development within the police service, while strengthening transparency and accountability.

He reiterated his vision of a Ghana where citizens feel safe and businesses thrive without fear.

Donation and Commissioning

To support operations at the new facility, the President donated a pickup vehicle and two motorcycles to the division.
He then officially declared the Krobo Odumase Divisional Police Headquarters open for use, expressing optimism that it will enhance security and development in the area.

“May God bless Krobo land and may God bless our homeland, Ghana,” he concluded.
